Annual TROOP Turkey-A-Thon

Troop turkey-a-thon

Fifteen years ago Troop Real Estate began a program that we named the Troop Turkey-A-Thon, where we donate groceries to feed families through the food banks in their local areas. Last year alone we fed Thanksgiving dinner to 3,250 families including 750 recently adopted Military families at the Sea Bee Base or approximately 26,000 people (with leftovers to boot), all in Ventura County.  Included in those numbers were 760 families, or approximately 6,100 people in the West County area alone. Year to date, we have fed over 178,000 people since the program’s humble beginnings. Our goal this year is to reach 26,000 people, or 3,250 families in the County, and 7,500 people locally.

This year, we need your help in the West County area.  For $20.00 per meal, you can provide funding for as many meals as possible. Each family, 8 people minimum, receives a 12-14 pound turkey, a 5 pound bag of potatoes, a box of stuffing, 2 cans of green beans, a can of cream of mushroom soup, a can of fried onions which completes the green bean casserole, and fresh rolls. The meals will be provided for the selected families in the West County on Monday Morning November 24th, at 9:00 AM.

Throughout the years, we have relied on the Troop Real Estate group of agents, employees, affiliates, and clients to fund this project. Too Good to be Healthy, E. J. Harrison Company, Bunnin Mazda, Kirby Automotive Group, Wells Fargo Home Loans and the Troop Real Estate family of companies were all local sponsors last year. All we did was ask. They are there again this year and they are a good beginning, but without you, we will not be able to reach everyone that we need to this year. Please help out if you can.

Remember, there is nothing more powerful than the power to give. Please consider this request with your heart and if possible, do what you can. You will be benefitting qualified people of all ages, old and young, unemployed, handicapped, sick, or just plain down on their luck. There are no administrative fees of any kind and 100% of your donations go to the expense of the food. This year’s need is greater than ever and we need your help. Please join us in this most worthy cause.

Thank you in advance for your help. To arrange a pick-up of a donation or for any questions, please email us at [email protected] or call Scott at 805.890.7857.  For more info. log on to www.troopturkeyathon.com. Deadline for Donations is Wednesday, November 19th.

6th Annual Camarillo Hospice Chili Cook-off & Music Festival

“Angels on earth,” I have heard friends from all around the country, all different states, make that identical declaration in reference to Hospice.

When my family faced my father’s end of life transition, the support we received from Hospice truly felt like heaven sent. In appreciation, I gladly give my time (Chili Cook) and Championship ‘Scorned Woman Chili’ recipe to our annual Camarillo Hospice Chili Cook-Off & Music Festival!

How did I, a true California Kid, come to be a Championship Chili Cook? A friend gave me the recipe many moons ago. Her boyfriend had been a Texas Chili Cook-Off King. He had written his recipe for her on the back of a hallmark card, notating ‘I must love you, for no one else on earth has this recipe’. She caught his heart ah cheat’n so now the rest of us be eat’n! Henceforth ‘Scorned Woman Chili’ was (re) born and has now won chili cook-offs all across this great nation of ours.

Please come out and enjoy the support & fun this year on Sunday, August 31, 11 AM to 4 PM @ the Camarillo Ranch. For a $10.00 admission fee, just look at all you will have access to: Championship Chili, PV Lions BBQ, Wine & Beer, Classic Car Display, Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament, Premium Wine Tasting, Games For Kids plus 3 Live Bands!!

Most Important – Come down and find our “Scorned Woman Chili” booth and we will give you our recipe absolutely free!! Or email us for a copy at [email protected]
